Safeguarding
The United Kingdom Cube Association (UKCA) is a Community Interest Company run by a group of volunteers to provide people with opportunities to compete officially in Speedcubing competitions. The competitions are attended by adults and young people (under the age of 18) and will usually occur with two-day events on weekends.
The UKCA is committed to ensuring the safeguarding and welfare of all young people and vulnerable adults, irrespective of their background, race, gender, or ability. The UKCA organises speedcubing events on the basis that everyone attending should have the opportunity to have fun and enjoy themselves in an environment that keeps them safe from harm. Whilst we aim to ensure the safety of everyone attending, the UKCA and its volunteers do not act as parents/guardians, and therefore parents/guardians of young people are at all times responsible for those under 18. The UKCA does not provide teaching, care, or supervision for young people. Parents and guardians of young people must remain present at all times throughout the competition or arrange appropriate supervision.
If you feel that someone may be at risk of harm, inform one of the listed Delegates immediately. They will assess the situation and take appropriate action. If there is reasonable belief that a young person is in immediate danger, the listed Delegates will contact the Police or the Local Authority safeguarding team as necessary. All safeguarding concerns will be handled with the utmost confidentiality, and information will only be shared with statutory agencies when necessary to safeguard and promote the welfare of a young person.
During a UKCA competition, you can find the list of Delegates on the competition webpage, which will have their photo attached. The UKCA will also outline and introduce who the Delegates at the competition are during the Competing and Judging Tutorial to ensure attendees know who to approach. Delegates will be wearing identifiable lanyards and/or red shirts to ensure they are easily approachable throughout the competition. Outside of a UKCA competition, contact James or Bertie, the Designated Safeguarding Leads for the UKCA, who will aim to respond within 24 hours.
